🍻Saucy Posse 🤝 Rhove
Background
The Washington just became the newest investment opportunity on Rhove. The Sponsor for this deal, Brent Zimmerman, is a serial entrepreneur who also happens to own a fantastic network of brewpubs across the country called Saucy Brew Works. This connection presented the opportunity to launch a collaboration with Saucy Brew Works with the goal of creating and growing the brand's cult following with an exclusive members-only club called the Saucy Posse. Membership to Saucy Posse is exclusively obtained inside the Rhove app, and becoming a member grants you unique benefits in-store at any Saucy Brew Works location. All of this is facilitated in a familiar format, but with one big distinction...it's all underpinned and made possible by the Solana blockchain.
Using web3auth, Freehold, Octane, and Solana Pay in the Rhove app we can merge on-chain assets with off-chain utility in an immediately impactful way for both sides of the Rhove marketplace (Investors and Sponsors), all while abstracting the complexities of crypto.
Here's a demo:
How it Works
When a customer creates a Rhove account, our platform automatically generates a self-custody Solana wallet for them using Web3Auth. This happens entirely in the background of our familiar web2 authentication flow (email + password). More importantly, this enables us to create intuitive web and mobile experiences uniquely enabled by the Solana blockchain. For example, we airdrop commemorative NFTs to customers after they invest in a deal, and we do so without them creating and/or linking an external wallet (although you can link your Phantom wallet if you have one). This is a great foundational tool for on-ramping the next billion users to crypto––but why stop there?
We use Freehold to spin up and airdrop membership NFTs for users who met membership criteria as dictated by our partners at Saucy Brew Works. When a customer signs up using the referral code "SAUCY", they are instantly airdropped a Saucy Posse membership NFT and 5 ABV tokens directly to their self-custody wallet. ABV tokens are loyalty rewards, they are the link between a membership NFT and real-world utility. Think of them as coupons that are redeemable at any Saucy Brew Works location.
Saucy Brew Works locations use the Solana Pay application to request an ABV token transfer from a customer. The Rhove app scans the Solana Pay QR code and provides the ability to sign a transaction in-app natively. How can users with self-custody wallets created for them in the background of the experience actually pay the transaction fee required to use/transfer their newly acquired ABV tokens for in-store experiences? Enter Octane, a gasless transaction relayer on Solana.
Octane accepts transactions via an HTTP API, signs them if they satisfy certain conditions, and forwards them to the network. This enables us to transfer fees from the original signer––who in most cases will not have $SOL in their wallet to cover the transaction fees––onto the merchant. Without a solution like Octane, all of the work we put into abstracting away the confusing experience of using blockchains would be for nothing. This was huge.
With Octane in place, the last gap of the experience is closed. We now can on-ramp new users with self-custody wallets through web3auth, create custom NFTs and airdrop them to users who meet certain criteria, employ token-gated experiences, and complete Solana Pay transactions within a native Swift iOS application, all without ever putting the cost of transaction fees onto users. Boom.
